Abstract

This study considered the attitude of current Swedish driving licence holders born in 1944 or 1947 to their future transport intentions. The overall response rate to the questionnaire was 80.1% indicating a high level of interest in the subject of the survey. Current driving distances among active drivers were 10000-20000 km per annum, with the car a predominant transport mode for all kinds of errands. 46.9% of the respondents chauffered older relatives. Most respondents, particularly men, expected to lead independent lives at 80 years of age and to be able to access recreational activities of their choice.
