Abstract

Proposals for a reduction of environmental intrusion in Balham form the basis of a traffic experiment with the following objectives: (1) improve safety for pedestrians, particularly children, by reducing speed and amount of traffic on residential roads; (2) improve environment in residential areas; (3) improve mobility for these without cars; and (4) develop new techniques of traffic management to compensate for limitations on new road building, particularly to reduce delays to buses and lorries on main roads.
