Abstract

In this paper the authors examine the mechanism of the demand structure, focusing on railway transport which is the main means of transport in Japan at the present time for people commuting to work and school, etc., and for which user information can be obtained from automatic ticket barriers, against the background of development of ITS technology. In this paper, it is shown that the passenger behavioral patterns can be summarized into two typical patterns, and passengers shift their time of commuting earlier or later to avoid the crowded rush hours; however, there is a difference in such behavior caused by the company's opening hour regulation.
