Abstract

This publication presents the 1991 statistics on the following. A) National motor vehicles in use, by vehicle type. B) Road network lengths; C) Road traffic by class of vehicle and by class of road. D) Transport demand, as measured by statistics on user expenditure onpublic transport, passenger travel, number of driving tests past, and freight transport (tonnage kilometres and tonnage). E) Energy consumption. F) Public expenditure on transport, including both CentralGovernment and Local authority expenditure; G) Taxation H) Traffic accidents; I) Regional statistics for road networks, road construction expenditure, vehicles in use, passenger transport by mode, and car ownership. J) County statistics for road networks, road expenditure, road accidents and casualties, and motor vehicles licenced. K) International comparisons for road networks, vehicles in use, road traffic, inland passenger and freight transport, and road user taxationand road expenditure. Transport forecasts are also provided
