Abstract

In rural areas public transport is threatened by decreasing numbers of passengers, retrenchment policies, and competition from other transport modes or by private transport companies. But these issues can also be a challenge for improvements and modifications such as a better information and marketing, better possibilities for changing transport, shorter waiting times, downgrading the demand on quiet hours, integration of taxi transport and improvements of provisions. More knowledge of passenger characteristics is also wanted.
