Abstract

The study aims to improve engineering design and thus optimise the safety benefits, through a better understanding of behavioural reactions to engineering modifications. This report outlines the research methods which will be used. The study will be concerned, in the first instance, with three types of engineering measures: 1) traffic calming; 2) pedestrian facilities; and 3) speed and redlight enforcement at traffic signals.
