Abstract

Road safety problems in urban areas can be described as the result of - a conflict in the functions of circulation and dwelling - the high speed of motorized traffic. The traffic behaviour of road users can be influenced by giving them correct information about road and traffic conditions. Static traffic signs are generally regarded as being not very effective. Changeable traffic signs, presenting information on the right place, at the right time and under the right conditions, are expected to be more effective.
