Abstract

Management monitoring : time for a new concept ? The view on monitoring is changing. Until now traffic-engineers collected a lot of data and presented these to the council as a result of their achievements. Now a day the council sets goals and asks to monitor these. The council is not interested in large series of numbers but wants to know if the targets are being reached. Which projects are executed? What were the effects? And how much public contentment is there? This new way of questioning asks for a new approach. Research appreciation is what’s important now. To achieve concrete results with an obvious policy to the public. The monitoring for the new Traffic and Transportation Plan (VVPR) for Rotterdam used this approach. New indicators were researched and already in the spring of 2005 the complete new style monitoring is being presented to the council. The council debate in the spring of 2005 will implement the voice of the inhabitants of Rotterdam. This paper will go into the realization of the monitoring. It enters into the thoughts that went into it and the selection moments in the process. (Author/publisher)
