Abstract

This report considers the different modes of transport and their respective contributions to economic growth, regional development, social relations, and mobility requirements. The emphasis is on freight transport, but some discussion of passenger transport is provided. Statistics to illustrate the main performance characteristics of the various transport modes are provided for Germany and The Netherlands. Data for gross added value as factor costs per transport sector are provided for The Netherlands.
