Abstract
The traditional position of the Netherlands as important distribution centre and "public road haulier" for Europe is threatened to be affected by a number of developments as the stiff for the economic centre of gravity in Western Europe and the harmonization of the European legislation. If the Netherlands will save its position strong measures must be taken in particular to guarantee the accessibility of the mainports. The use of the car should be therefore decreased.
