Abstract
In the town centre of the city of Amsterdam yearly 55 pedestrians are injured in the vicinity of stopping places of public transport. This is almost one third of the total number of injured pedestrians in the town centre. An analysis of the accidents shows that these accidents are caused by the unexpected crossing behaviour of the pedestrians and the unadapted behaviour of motorized traffic near the stopping places. The design and layout of the public space in the vicinity of the stopping places is obviously not sufficiently attuned to the actual use of the pedestrians.
