Abstract

In 1966 Christoffer Alexander wrote "the Pattern of Streets". He used an idealization of existing networks to show that they could be radically improved. This article uses idealized description of existing networks, but it seeks the best pattern of streets in residential areas. This is the pattern that delivers the most desirable combination of environmental quality and service to traffic.
