Abstract
This report discusses the specific requirements which safety fences for non-motorway roads should satisfy in the `sustainably safe' traffic system context. The report considers what type of adapted constructions would meet these requirements. Particular attention is given to the application of new materials such as plastic material in this field. These materials offer good protection. The materials can also help to reduce the associated vehicle damage.
