Abstract
This article describes the advantages of using PCMCIA Memory Cards with traffic counters and outlines their method of operation. A large data storage capacity is available and added to this is the possibility of the customisation of traffic counters to suit the particular needs of a traffic department. Users buy or create individual data collecting cards which contain all the firmware to implement a certain type of data collection. New technology or additional features can be accommodated by the use of an update card. The design of traffic counters is briefly considered.
