Abstract

Since 2000 the Office of Road Safety (ORS) in WA has developed, produced and evaluated community education campaigns targeting adults not wearing restraints. These campaigns have, together with police enforcement, promotion and advocacy efforts formed the basis of initiatives designed to increase restraint use. In 2005 and 2006 a series of five 15 second television commercials known collectively as Excuses were screened. The intent of this paper is to describe the current WA situation with regard to adult restraint use in WA and to identify longer-term campaign directions for the future.
