Abstract

Bicycle accident data collected by North Carolina hospital emergency rooms during summer 1985 and 1986 are analyzed and compared with State police- reported data. Two- thirds of those treated in the hospital emergency rooms were children under the age of 15 and 70% were male. Results confirm also that police accident files miss a substantial portion of bicycle- motor vehicle accidents. Recommendations are given for continued research.
