Abstract

The planned facilities for pedestrians and cyclists in Amsterdam can be divided in (1) an expansion of the traffic-free pedestrian areas in the town centre; (2) adjustments in areas with a dominant residential function laying stress on the pedestrian; (3) improvements in streets which form an indispensable part of the road network; and (4) the construction of bicycle routes. The paper is presented in an abridged version.
