Abstract

Bicyclist crashes occur frequently in China, and for many different reasons. In 1990 there were 49,271 highway fatalities in China, of which 60% involved bicyclists and pedestrians. To reduce crashes, effectively engineering, education programs and enforcement methods, or `countermeasures' must be based on understanding the root causes of specific crash types. Today, the types of crashes are not well defined in China. This paper explores how repeated bicycly crashes occur. Methods to collect crash data are described.
