Abstract

A study of youthful bicycle riders and events occurring to everyday use of their vehicles was conducted in a southern U.S. city from May to October of 1970. The subjects, ranging in age from 6-19 years, were chosen in a random manner from selected elementary and junior high schools included in the Raleigh, N.C., City School system. Initial contact with the subjects was accomplished by a questionnaire that recorded demographic and bicycle description data and information which permitted calculations of bicycle ownership rates by sex.
