Abstract

Bicycle safety is discussed in relation to motorcycle safety and accident rates. Several points are emphasized. Cyclists are extremely vulnerable to injury in an accident, and this vulnerability must be considered in planning for bicycle safety. Since bicyclists seem frequently to be at fault in car-cycle accidents, a vigorous education and bicycle safety enforcement program is advisable.
