Abstract

Considerable reductions of the total road toll in both fatality and injury rates have been achieved in Victoria and Australia over the past 16 years. The same result has not been achieved, however, in the cycling area where rates and number of casualties have increased since the mid seventies. Accident countermeasures can be directed towards preventing the accident occurring or to reducing its severity and its exist for pre crash, crash and post crash phases of an accident.
