Abstract

Several approaches to the problem of cyclists are discussed on state as well as federal level. Recent failures in bikeway design are focused in the hope that similar mistakes can be avoided in the future. The planning and design of a demonstration bikeway is presented after which the incremental approach used to solve individual design problems are described. Other topics covered are methods to predict the type and volume of bicycle trips and the development of a planning process for a functional and recreational bicycle system.
