Abstract
Types of speed and traffic monitoring camera used in the UK are reviewed and illustrated. These include Gatso Autospeed detection devices (conventional photographic), Trafficmaster surveillance cameras, Speed Violation Detection Deterrent digital cameras including Specs, TruVelo cameras using infrared technology, Radar detection systems including Muniquip and Multanova, Laser speed detection, Auto Vision portable video systems, Marom using electro-optic and infrared technologies, Racal tax evasion system and VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder) for use in police cars.
