Abstract

The development of the New Zealand Transport Agency's InfoConnect conceptto provide travel information is described. The development of the Traffic Road Event Information System (TREIS) and new national Traffic Management Software provided by Transdyn Inc. are outlined. A requirement for theprovision of a road user information service led to the InfoConnect project. A 12 month pilot scheme was implemented which aimed to provide travelinformation to a variety of users who could add value to the information,or having an existing level of credibility, would be trusted by the public when they passed on the information. The criteria developed to assess the success of the pilot were met and a second phase put into operation. Details are given of the application programming interfaces and web feeds that will contribute to Phase 2. Users such as the AA and Met Service are expected to use the feeds from InfoConnect on their own websites and independent developers will be able to make the information available to their customers on an ad hoc basis.
