Abstract

This paper has the following tasks : - demonstration of useful borders for the biogenic blended proportion in the fuel from an economical/technical point of view, as well as - investigation of technical requirements on cars from old stock and new vehicles for operation with such fuel blends especially regarding aspects of durability. Based on extensive literature research usefull additions that were used in 5 cars (3 petrol vehicles and 2 diesel vehicles) have been determined and examined on an exhaust roller dynometer testbench. Two vehicles participated in an endurance test of 80,000 km. Those vehicles have been valued regarding emission behaviour, fuel consumption and engine power and obtained an engine oil sample. At the end of the endurance test on both vehicles motor and fuel system has been inspected carefully. From vehicle's technical point of view bio diesel limits the maximum possible incorporation rate especially by oil dilution as well as by the increase of NOx emissions. Limiting facts for higher bio alcohol components are compatibility of materials and fuel consumption. Also if the examined Euro 5 vehicles were not designed for the usage with higher additions of biofuels, the significant limits for limited emissions were not exceeded during the tests. With exception of NOx for diesel vehicles even the Euro 6 limits were underscored. (Author/publisher)
