Abstract

The first objective of this paper is to give a description of the tolerances for the entire spectrum of injuries referred to as diffuse brain injury (DBI). The second objective is to develop a relationship between the tolerances for DBI while also considering variations in patient genotype for apolipoprotein E, a powerful influence on brain injury severity and outcome. This is the first presentation of a set of interrelationships between biomechanical metrics and the entire spectrum of DBI, and the first hypothesis of the potential influence of a genetic factor on human tolerance to trauma.
