Abstract

This study was carried in order to analyse leg injuries sustained in motorcycle accidents and to find possibilities for improved leg protection. Each injury was analyzed with type of injury, localisation and severity Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and correlated to the impact situation with impact direction, impulse angle, load and characteristics of the kinematic behaviour. 258 motorcyclists collided to cars and injured on legs are analyzed in detail. Demands for efficient devices are discussed and accident situations are described in which a special leg protector on the cycle could have the best benefit and what its looks like. (A)
