Abstract

This Transportation Research Record contains 28 papers on the subject of bituminous paving mixtures. Various topics are discussed, including the following: the resilient modulus of hot mix asphalt (HMA); the effect of lime modification on the dynamic modulus stiffness of HMA; distress in HMA and asphalt rubber overlays; HMA with recycled asphalt pavement; test for the presence of asphalt antistripping additive; predicting field permeability from HMA specimens; thin-lift HMA surface course mixes; interlayer shear resistance; raveling; circular texture meter for measuring surface texture; Superpave gyratory compactors; Superpave volumetric mixture design for modified binders; comparison of Superpave and Marshall mix performance; bituminous surfacing for an orthotropic steel deck bridge; stone matrix asphalt; rotary loaded-wheel testing of HMA; fatigue endurance limit testing; top-down cracking; tension test for fracture resistance; gradation effect on the dynamic modulus; dynamic modulus prediction; dynamic modulus master curves for pavement structural design; discrete element modeling to predict the complex modulus; characterizing the mix fatigue damage process; and anisotropy in asphalt concrete.
