Abstract

This manual outlines in some detail proposed investigation into and recording procedures for the identification of the physical features of a section of road which have contributed to the occurrence of accidents. In a separate and accompanying note, "accident reduction through road improvements" (rs.94), an overall system is outlined for the selective improvement of sections of the road network. The note envisages three essential stages in a proposed improvement programme. (1) the identification and designation of sections of road with a higher than average accident occurrence. (2) the modification of designated sections. (3) the systematic recording of details, including cost, date and type, of each improvement. See also irrd abstract no. 203543.
