Abstract

This paper discusses an empirical equation that can be used to describe friction material wear, the values for which may be determined by dynamometer testing. By means of this equation, it is possible in principle to predict friction material life for various driving situations. Braking can then be treated as a stochastic process, and the wear effects can be calculated.
