New road markings have been added to a 13-metre-wide major road on the E4 in the county of Kronoberg. The lane width has thus been changed from 3.75 to 5.50 m and the width of the shoulders from 2.75 to 1 m. The lanes and shoulders are separated by a continuous 30 cm wide edgeline of the Kamflex type instead of the earlier 10 cm wide intermittent line. The test road was studied with respect to lateral position, distribution of lateral position, spot speed, journey speed, overtaking frequency, overtaking behaviour, average platoon length, rear-end behaviour, visual guidance and accidents. Furthermore, road user attitudes to the new section have been studied. (A)
