Abstract

The all- mechanical airbag module developed by breed corporation is described. Three basic proprietary computer model simulations were developed to: 1. predict the sensor trigger time for various types of crash sensors. 2. predict occupant injuries for various vehicle crashes and occupant sizes as a function of airbag system design. 3. work was also carried out with the corporation's proving ground crash library of more than 1000 instrumented crashes. With these tools a sensor was designed mounted outside the crush zone- in the steering wheel for the driver side, in the instrument panel for the passenger side.
