Abstract

This paper presents the architecture of the Diagnostic Freeway MOE Monitoring System (DF-MOE-MS) which is designed to be embedded within Advanced Traffic Management Systems and Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATMS/ATIS). A Methodology for designing ITS data fitness, performance MOEs, and problem diagnosis subsystems is proposed. A prototype design of the DF-MOE-MS will be demonstrated by displaying real-time ITS fitness data and MOE results on a specific freeway. The design of MOE problem diagnosis diagrams is expected to provide user-friendly tool for a quick diagnosis of freeway component sites in which potential performance problems exist. More importantly, this paper demonstrates an example of taking advantage of advanced computerized information collection and processing technologies to enhance and improve the traditional traffic engineering analysis capability.
