Abstract

An historical overview of road accidents in Japan and a brief international comparison are presented. Methods of accident prevention and the causes of accidents are discussed and it is considered that a mechanism whereby the administration of road safety is the continuing responsibility of dedicated political structures is important in obtaining further accident prevention.
