Abstract

The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) is subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV). Its primary tasks are to promote the development of the road system and, to this end, to provide the BMV with scientifically assured assistance for reaching its decisions with regard to transport-policy and specialist problems to be dealt with in connection with the road system. In order to be able to perform these tasks, the BASt conducts its own research, coordinates research projects for the BMV and evaluates their results. In order to give all the interested parties an insight into the research conducted by the BASt, this booklet describes, for the first time, all the ongoing and planned projects at the moment in a form which is brief and (as far as possible) comprehensible even for non-specialists (status: July 1, 1997). In this respect, the sequence results from the six superordinate research objectives governing the BASt's research. (A)
