Abstract

Driver behaviour at rail- highway grade crossings is influenced by the fact that there is a low probability for a bus to meet a train, but if it happens, it will have especially serious consequences. In an attempt to formulate countermeasures for these types of accidents, bus driver behaviour at different kinds of railroad highway grade crossings was studied. Driver behaviour could be characterized first of all by visual searching activity and speed choice at these places.
