Abstract
A discussion of local bus lanes accompanied by a representative inventory of bus lanes and accompanying measures in OECD Member countries, is given. Bus route systems involving arterial or motorway traffic corridors and additional facilities for improving bus service and areawide bus systems which can include a network of continuous grade- separated routes for buses serving all parts of an urban area are also examined. Quantitative and qualitative criteria which must be considered before installing bus lanes are examined.
