Abstract

This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 60 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on the various bus priority measures currently under investigation in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. The measures are aimed at cutting journey times, increasing bus occupancy and service reliability, and reducing traffic congestion. Accounts of field trials and simulation exercises are included, covering such measures as bu only lanes, bus priority signalling in urban traffic control systems, gating for bottleneck road links, pre-signalling and queue relocation, bus advance areas at junctions, guided busways and parking restrictions at bus stops. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1993 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
