Abstract

In the newly developing outer urban areas of Melbourne there is no mechanism for ensuring an efficient bus route structure or staged implementation of new services; in established areas, few initiatives have been taken to optimise the level of service which buses provide. The paper outlines the problems which apply and discusses ways in which they can be overcome.
