Abstract

Calculations are made of the response of representative vehicles to a particular cross wind disturbance in order to show the relative importance of the cross wind gradients and the cross wind velocities. Dimensionless forms for the automotive ''stability derivatives'' are proposed as an adjunct to these calculations, and estimation techniques are discussed for the aerodynamic contribution to these derivatives as well as the appropriate aerodynamic inputs.
