Abstract

An experiment has been made with magnetic loop detectors for measuring vehicle speed and length on one lane in a New York tunnel for traffic control purposes. The longer rise and decay times for magnetic loop detectors and a greater variance in the measurements were drawbacks to greater reliability and less maintenance. Correction of the measurements, as provided by control experiments with photocell detectors and television recording, gave satisfactory results.
