California Department of Motor Vehicles research studies : a summary of findings and conclusions.

Abstract

This report is a compendium of research findings published by the California Department of Motor Vehicles Research and Development Branch since its inception in 1959 through June 1999. The summarised studies are grouped into six content areas: (1) drivers education and training effectiveness studies; (2) drivers licensing screening effectiveness studies; (3) effectiveness studies on improvement and control of deviant drivers; (4) basic research and methodological studies: driver performance, accident etiology, prediction models, and actuarial applications; (5) driver licensing/control systems and safety management studies; and (6) studies on special driver population, including drunk drivers.
