Abstract

Due to dangerous driving and car drivers not obeying basic traffic regulations, the number of child passengers killed and injured has increased more than three times in the Czech Republic since 1989. This is the reason why the Czech Ministry of the Interior has started a huge campaign on the use of appropriate child restraint devices in December 1994. This paper describes the background, the task of the campaign, tools used and the first results of the campaign. The bodies involved in the campaign are mentioned. The relationship with the making of new legislation in the Czech Republic is also described. The results show, among other things, an increase in the use of child restraint devices within the first campaign stage.
