Abstract

This document is a compilation of two reports and provides a comprehensive summary of the work carried out to date by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) on the important, emerging issue of aging drivers. Part 1 contains the Aging Driver Strategy developed by CCMTA in the Spring of 2000 and approved by the CCMTA Board of Directors in June 2000. The information in this strategy will provide the framework for future work to be carried out by CCMTA and the Canadian provinces and territories responsible for road safety, driver licensing and administration. Part 2 contains the Proceedings of the Maturing Driver Workshop carried out in October 1999, the first national forum on the topic of aging drivers involving Canadian driver licence administrators and other stakeholders. Also included as an appendix of this document is a detailed literature review. The information in Part 2 provided much of the background information for the development of the Aging Driver Strategy.
