Abstract

The paper describes some of the procedures and methods used in Israel on the subject of capacity. Generally, the US Highway Capacity Manual approach is followed, but is adapted to represent local conditions as required. A local capacity manual will be published in 1994, and local capacity procedures for various types were established. Capacity and level of service values for two-lane rural roads, dual carriageways and freeways are described. On intersections, work reported deals mostly with roundabout capacity and with signalised intersections. On the basis of a very limited amount of local data gathering, it was found that British roundabout capacity procedures, as described in PICADY2, best suit conditions. described in PICADY2, best suit conditions. At signalised intersections, capacity volumes were generally found to be about 10 per cent higher than those used in HCM procedures. (A)
