Abstract

Speed, flow, density, and levels of comfort for pedestrians on walkways, stairways, escalators, and moving walks and at street intersections are outlined. Walkway service levels in units of area per pedestrian are described in flow rates of pedestrian per minute per meter of walkway width. The application of these requirements to improvement of existing pedestrian facilities is discussed.
