Abstract

CAPITALS - CApitals' Project for Integrated Telematics Applications on a Large Scale - involves European metropolitan areas at Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Berlin which joined the project in summer 1997. The common objective is to install and improve traffic information services at various levels for all kinds of users by means of implementing appropriate telematics applications. The main focus of the CAPITALS project is a commonly agreed traffic information service platform upon which public, public/private or private services for administration and end users (travellers) can be based. All cities will improve their 'content providing' level by interlinking traffic control and other systems to improve the data content base. The majority of the CAPITALS cities are in the process of setting up traffic information centres/servers. (A)
