Abstract

A captive ridership estimation technique seems to be more appropriate to the needs of a city in an underdeveloped economy than the choice ridership estimation techniques used in the technologically advanced countries of Western Europe and the V.S. Discriminate analysis has been used in this study to estimate the proportion of captive riders in the city of Ile-Ife. Six variables trips per day by household, income, education, vehicle ownership, distance to work and journey time to work were found to be significant.
