Abstract

A generally applicable mathematical model offering an accurate simulation of both vehicle and occupant and their mutual interactions has been developed to analyse strain and stress in the femur and pelvis during a head on collision. The results offer a reasonable exhaustive picture of the dynamic behaviour of the femur and the pelvis and the stresses to which they are subjected in a frontal impact.
