Abstract

On the 1st January 1989, the standard report used by all police forces in Great Britain to record details of all road accidents in which a person is injured (STATS19), was modified to include the vehicle registration mark of any vehicle involved. A range of extra information has been obtained from this by linking the vehicle registration mark with vehicle data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) at Swansea. This report is the second of results taken from this additional vehicle information. This rpeort is in two parts and presents figures for 1990. Section 1 of the report provides information on the rates of involvement in injury accidents of different types and models of cars, and the rate of injuries to occupants of those cars. In Section 2, information on the risk of injury to drivers who are involved in an injury accident is presented.
